Aug 27th Worship Zoom Link plus Pastor Mike “Thoughts for the Week”

Hi Cross of Glory Friends….

And greetings from BALMY Houston, Texas (And I thought Phoenix in the summer was hot!!!),

From the get-go everybody, I want to say “Thank you” for the allowance of being down here for consultations for both melanoma and bone marrow cancer.  MD Anderson Cancer Clinic is a city within itself with the world’s finest doctors and research scientists.  GOOD NEWS!  With your great support, prayers galore, an unmatched family and dear friends, a team of conscientious physicians and the latest of cancer fighting treatments, the cancer in my liver has shrunk to half its size!  The cancer in my lungs is being obliterated and there is no indication of ANY new growths!  As for the bone marrow cancer, there continues to be no known cure… BUT interestingly enough… doctors were able without ANY difficulty to extract as much bone marrow fluid as they desired from me the other day, something impossible to do when I had the last of my bone marrow extractions due to scarring within my bones. HMMMMMMMMMMM.
Thank you for your ongoing encouragements.  I have met so many amazing people in this journey… and I have so many stories to tell about their courage, strength and faith.
After a Broncos preseason win against the Rams tonight (fingers crossed), we have church tomorrow morning.  Here is the link:

A few prayer requests:
1.  Joy in the Davis/Binks family!  Carin is a grandma and Jean a great (well we knew that) grandma!  Little girl Carter came into the world last Tuesday afternoon, healthy, 8 pounds and 1 ounce (for me, three Big Macs), 20 inches long!!!God is good.
2.  Remember to keep Kurt Davis in your continued prayers.  Following chemotherapy for cancer in his leg, Curt has developed nasty hives. Pray for the eradication of this cancer and Kurt’s complete recovery.
3.  The same goes for Helen Devantery’s dear friend Mary in Phoenix.
4.  Please pray for Brett Prange’s friend, Lisa and the friend she is supporting at MD Anderson this weekend. Lisa was saddened by the death of her husband Rod months ago, a precious soul who pointed the way to Jesus.
5.  Craig Pizinski asks us to pray for his sister-in-law Betty who is in ICU with congestive heart failure.  Doctors are trying to drain off built-up fluids… reminiscent of Julie Block in rehab now. Pray for God’s loving embrace of these dear ones.
6.  Vada Danforth is thankful to God for a good health report last week!
7.  Anybody willing to sell a used, working car cheap?  How about renting out a one-bedroom apartment close to church?
When praises go up, blessing come down!
See you in worship tomorrow Cross of Glory!
Pastor Mike Lemke
PS:  Check out Mom’s announcements below also!   All kinds of fun things happening at church!  And do not miss the Steve Wilson guitar concern on our lawn tomorrow beginning at 4 PM.  Not the Steve Miller band (much better!).  Not the Brian Wilson/ Beach Boys (Steve is far more talented!). Pass the word!  Save room for a hot dog or two!

OPENING HYMN
“How Great Thou Art”

ELW 856

(Verses 1, 2, 4)

 1.
O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder
Consider all the works Thy Hand hath made;
I see the stars, I hear the mighty thunder
Thy power throughout the universe displayed;
Chorus:
Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

2.

When through the woods, and forest glades I wander,
I hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees;
When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur
And hear the brook, and feel the gentle breeze;
Chorus:
Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

4.
When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration
And then proclaim: “My God, how great Thou art!”
Chorus:
Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

SERMON HYMN
“Beautiful Savior”

ELW 838

(Verses 1, 2, 3, 4)

1.

Beautiful Savior, King of Creation,
Son of God and Son of Man!
Truly I’d love Thee, Truly I’d serve Thee,
Light of my soul, my Joy, my Crown.

2.

Fair are the meadows,
Fair are the woodlands,
Robed in flowers of blooming spring;
Jesus is fairer, Jesus is purer;
He makes our sorrowing spirit sing.

3.

Fair is the sunshine, Fair is the moonlight,
Bright the sparkling stars on high;
Jesus shines brighter, Jesus shines purer,
Than all the angels in the sky.

4.

Beautiful Savior, Lord of the nations,
Son of God and Son of Man!
Glory and honor, Praise, adoration,
Now and forevermore be Thine!

CLOSING HYMN
“Jesus Loves Me”

ELW 595

(Verses 1, 2, 3)

1.

Jesus loves me! This I know,
For the Bible tells me so;
Little ones to Him belong;
They are weak, but He is strong.

Refrain:
Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.

2.

Jesus loves me! He who died
Heaven’s gate to open wide;
He will wash away my sin,
Let His little child come in.

Refrain:
Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.

3.

Jesus loves me! He will stay
Close beside me all the way;
When at last I come to die,
He will take me home on high.

Refrain:
Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.
