Hi Cross of Glory Family and Friends,
“And Mary, not recognizing Jesus but supposing Him to be the gardener, said to the Lord, “Sir, if you know where Jesus was taken, please tell me so that I can go to Him.” And Jesus responded, “Mary!”
Last Sunday, Easter, many of you watched our ZOOM worship service. Thank you for looking in. As part of the Children’s Sermon, Lynn Reid had prepared a beautiful portrayal for our kids of Mary Magdalene that Easter morning going to the tomb to anoint Jesus’ body. Steve Reid, Lynn’s husband, in his technological wizardry, had pre-recorded Lynn’s Mary Magdalene portrayal, even putting an empty tomb in the backdrop.
IT LOOKED SO GREAT! AND THEN WHEN IT WAS TIME FOR THE BIG MOMENT TO “AIR” IN OUR EASTER CELEBRATION, FOR WHATEVER REASONS, WE COULD NOT PULL UP THE RECORDING!!!
Lynn jumped into action. She grabbed a white plastic tablecloth from our Fellowship Hall, ran back into the sanctuary and tried as best she could to recall and recreate what she had portrayed days before, live and in living moment!!!
She did a super job!
BUT NOW I SUSPECT I KNOW WHY THINGS DID NOT GO AS SMOOTHLY AS HOPED LAST SUNDAY EASTER MORNING. LYNN WAS SUPPOSE TO SEE HER PORTRAYAL AGAIN, ONLY THIS TIME, NOT AS MARY MAGDALENE BUT AS LYNN REID! LYNN SHOULD SEE HERSELF ‘IN THE GARDEN,” LOST IN TEARS, AGAINST THE BACKDROP OF A TOMB AND HEAR JESUS’ WORDS TO HER, NOT “MARY,” BUT “LYNN! LYNN! LYNN!” “LYNN, IT’S ME, JESUS! “AND LYNN, I AM BIGGER THAN DEATH ITSELF. DEATH CANNOT CONTAIN ME! DEATH CANNOT HOLD MY PRECIOUS KIDS!”
Lynn Reid’s mother Barbara (Babs) passed into greater life the morning of Friday, April 17, a little after 6 AM.
Lynn and Steve had been given permission to enter the nursing home and see Barbara but yesterday. The hospice caregiver at the nursing home said that Barbara’s breathing was becoming heavier, shallower. Kendra, Lynn and Steve’s daughter, a first-time mom of three weeks ago, drove the 4-hour drive to Denver. Little did any of the family members know that Jesus called “Barbara’s name” a bit sooner than anticipated.
Of course, son Josh (such a loving, adventuresome spirit) drove through Fairplay, seeing the sunrise this morning there, as he hurried to be at Bab’s bedside. Son David, dreading this time, came to the nursing home early this morning as well. Ironic, Josh and David would say, that on the day of their grandma’s passing into greater life, they would see their newborn niece Cooper (Kendra’s baby) for the very first time!
“A time to be born, a time to die.”
Won’t you especially remember the Reid family in your heart and prayers? Babs will be buried eventually at sacred, Ft. Logan cemetery (Denver’s military cemetery) alongside husband Jack, a proud veteran of the Air Force. Ft. Logan is closed for burials these days until such a time that virus concerns pass.
WE WILL BE HAVING A CELEBRATION OF LIFE SERVICE FOR BARBARA IN THE NEAR FUTURE. WE PROMISE TO KEEP YOU POSTED!
In the meantime, please reach out lovingly to Lynn and her family. Heaven knows, Lynn has reached out to us umpteen billion times in the past.
AND LYNN, LOOK FOR JESUS’ OUTREACHED HAND TO YOU THIS SUNDAY AS WE PLAY (HOPEFULLY WITHOUT TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES) YOUR MARY MAGDALENE PORTRAYAL IN OUR SUNDAY MORNING 10 AM ZOOM WORSHIP SERVICE.
Barbara was always so very kind to me, and I know, to you. When she would attend Cross of Glory she ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, with a quirky, cute, little mischievous smile said during the handshake time at the door after worship, “Be sure to say ‘Hello to the OTHER Barbara (my wife’s name is Barb)!'”
Babs, you are missed already… but always nearby, in greater life, with your husband Jack, in the hands, always reaching out to us hands, of the risen Christ Himself.
He is risen! He is risen indeed Babs! And… so are you! Easter Joy!
Pastor Mike Lemke
