November 3rd Worship Zoom Link plus Pastor Mike “Thoughts for the Week”

Dear Saints of God!
On this Halloween night, I am especially thinking of Luther and His 95 Theses.  It was Luther who spoke/wrote of Christians as both Sinners AND Saints.  Certainly we can point to influential ones who will forever be in our hearts… those who have loved us… even in spite of us.  There are the saints who are already in Heaven and there are the saints among us today.  Who knows?  Maybe someone hails you as a saint in THEIR life!
This Sunday is All Saints’ Sunday.  You will have opportunity to tell us about your saint(s).  Perhaps you want to bring him/her/them to worship and/or bring a picture of him/her/them.  How wonderful if YOU could be the sermon this Sunday as you join others at Cross of Glory in sharing word about your precious one(s).
We are especially grateful for Craig Pizinski week after week, for years, getting us our Celebrate insert.  We hope to sing “In the Garden” this Sunday in remembrance of Belinda, Craig’s sister.  We also remember Don Pieratt as Don’s mother died earlier this year.  Karen Matlock will play the hymn while remembering husband Roger and their three sons.

I am sending this email to you so that you will have more time to collect your thoughts about sharing with us this Sunday.  Please be reminded that Saturday night you… FALL BACK… and hour with the time change.  You can get an extra hour of sleep BEFORE joining us for 9 AM Adult Sunday School!  Hehe…

Be looking for your November newsletter this Sunday in worship.  There is a lot going on this month.  We will be having our Time/Talent/Treasure drive and Thanksgiving Eve worship service.  I want to be in all of our church members’ homes before the end of the month to get caught up with you, to pray with you and to learn of your needs.  I would also like to hear your thoughts about the needs of our church and how together we might attempt to begin meeting those needs.

Thank you Mom, Mary Lemke, for year after year, putting out a monthly Cross of Glory newsletter.  Mary will especially be thinking of her sister Joanie as we go into All Saint’s Sunday.

Lastly, I want to share with you a prayer request from our Congregational President Jan Reich:

Good Morning Pastor Mike,

My oldest friend since 1952, Sue Kenyeri (Muller) has been moved to hospice care. Her & I had a wonderful lunch together when I got to Illinois this past August.

She is struggling with lung cancer, and her hopes and faith are diminished.  All the pains and losses she endured through the last few years, her husband to Covid, 2 grand children, and their father, her son.  And in October 2022, her daughter to pancreatic cancer.

Her granddaughter daughter let me know Sue isn’t doing well and in need of prayers from me.  Thank you Pastor Mike for your support and prayers as we’ve talked about Sue and our dear friendship.

Jan

So much going on folks.  I taught the first of our Thursday 10 AM Luther Apostles’ Creed classes as church this morning.  Please consider attending.  I thought the discussion was extra-ordinary… not because people were necessarily profound but because they talked from their hearts about questions they believe many people have about God… questions so many of us can relate to.  WE WOULD BE BETTER WITH YOUR PARTICIPATION.  PLEASE DO NOT DISMISS COMING.

Looking forward to learning more about your saints this Sunday!

Pastor Mike Lemke

CROSS OF GLORY MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES

EVERY SUNDAY

Prior to our 10:00 AM Worship Service at 9:00 AM, plan to be with us for our Adult Bible Study at COG!  It’s an amazing way to begin your Sunday!

POWER HOUR PRAYER MINISTRY

We are encouraged to pray.  God knows our needs, our joys even before we approach heaven’s throne of grace. God wants us to pray because WE WILL BE THE BETTER FOR IT!

After worship each Sunday, beginning at 11:30 AM, we invite you to return to our sanctuary for 30 minutes of concentrated prayer. Joining other friends from church, we pray for ourselves, for others, for all.  Be better! Enhance your friendship with God… and with one another!

NEW BIBLE STUDY AT CROSS OF GLORY

BEGINS ON THURSDAY, OCTOBER 31

10:00 AM

After taking a brief recess, our Bible Study participants are enjoying their new Bible Study which began on Thursday, October 31, at 10:00 AM at Cross of Glory!

Pastor Mike is teaching a new Bible Study as he leads a discussion of Martin Luther’s understanding of the Apostles’ Creed.  It began approximately on October 31, the 95 Theses date, 507 years ago!

Join us at Cross of Glory next Thursday morning, November 7, at 10:00 AM as we, using Luther’s Small Catechism, delve into understandings of the Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.   Please consider joining us as we share Jesus and our Christianity with others.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 9

CROSS OF GLORY BOOK CLUB

10:00 AM

The next book our Book Club participants have selected to read and discuss is THE CHRISTMAS BOX, by Richard Paul Evans. The book is a touching story about a widow and the young family who moves in with her.  They discover together the first gift of Christmas and learn what Christmas is all about.  This book is a very quick read (approximately 100 pages).

Please join the Book Club on Saturday, November 9, 10:00 AM  for a beautiful start on the upcoming holiday season! Colette Kerlin, our discussion leader, will gladly answer any questions you may have about the Book Club.
